Except built-in native codecs:
MPEG1-2, MP3, A52, FAAD you may want to have
support for other formats!
MPlayerXP now has built-in (same as native)
ffmpeg codec so you don't need to download it separatedly.
This codecs covers almost all popular
video formats:
MPEG-1,2, DIVX(1-5), AP41, 3IVD, H261-H264, I263, MPG43, MP42, WMV1-2, HUFFYUV,
SVQ1-3, DX50, XVID, CYUV, VCR1-2, Indeo3, VP3, RPZX, ASV1-2, CVID, CRAM, ZyGo,
CLJR, Theora, Ultimotion, VIXL, LOCO, ...
and
audio formats:
MP1-3, MP3ADU, RA144-RA288, Flac, Sonic, DTS-AC3, G726, FAAC, ALAC,
IMA ADPCM, WMA1-2, MAC3-6, Creative ADPCM, AMR, ALAW-ULAW, ...
Below are described codecs which are not included into source distributive:
- If you are watching some exotics movies (like sp6x, vp7, quicktime, realmedia and similar) then you
need download W32 Codec package for MPlayerXP on
x86 UNIX systems.
Note: this is useless for ms windows or microsoft mplayer2 users, as
it contains modified DLLs, and doesn't contain .EXE/.BAT/.INF files
required by windows installation.
Download them if you run MPlayerXP on x86 unix (linux/bsd/solaris) system only!
- Also, you may want to install Ogg-vorbis codec.
Qouting their authors:
Q: Why Vorbis? MP3 is open.
A: Fraunhofer (and other MPEG consortium members)
claim that it is impossible to create an mp3 encoder without infringing on their
patents... If you didn't pay for that copy of mp3enc, you're [technically] a thief.
- MPlayerXP also supports divx4(5)linux
- In addition, MPlayerXP provides support for XViD codecs which
are fork of OpenDivX project!
- Also it would correctly to recommend you a very optional package of
Xanim codecs. But it's hardly that
somebody will want to use them.
If you want to play CDDA (CD Digital Audio) you need to install
CDDA paranoia
library.
If you want to play a DVD-V (means: VideoDVD) then you need to install following packages:
http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd
(click 'download' in the menu at the left, and you can find libdvdc>s and
libdvdread in a table).
IMPORTANT !
For
- libdvdread 0.8 - you'll need libcss instead of libdvdcss
- libdvdread 0.9 - you'll need libdvdcss 0.0.3 ! Don't use newer
versions, they won't work!
- For example never use libdvdcss 1.0, it will be unusably slow!
- libdvdread 0.9.3+ - please read its instruction on libdvdcss version.
With this library it's normal to use libdvdcss-1.2.0+
- On my home system I've use the next versions:
libdvdread-0.9.4
libdvdcss-1.2.8
libdvdnav-0.1.10
libdvdvplay-1.0.1
Compile and install libdvdcss THEN libdvdread.
To watch a whole DVD with correct chapter's order you need to have
libdvdnav.
You may obtain it here:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dvd/libdvdnav-0.1.3.tar.gz?download.
If you want to play Video CD then you need to install
libvcd
library which depends on
libcdio
project.
If you want to have OSD then you need download and install on of these packages:
Fonts & symbols package for OSD (ISO 8859-1) (by Arpi)
Fonts & symbols package for OSD (ISO 8859-2) (by Arpi)
Russian font (by Nick Kurshev)
Another package of russian fonts original location:
http://mplayer.gorodok.net/mp-fonts-cyrillic.tar.gz
Stuff for korean subtitles also a very good fontgenerator
I would recommend you to download and install
libSDL on your system.
There are several reasons to do that:
- libsdl is portable library and supports many operating system. On many operating
system using of libsdl is only way to have video and audio playback!
- It has SDL_Image addon and
it's only way to watch pictures with MPlayerXP for now!
To produce screenshots you need download and install
libpng
library.
If you want to compile and use MPlayerXP under MS Windows then you need to download
Cygwin-1.5
or better. Please see
FAQs for detailed instruction for
how to compile and use MPlayerXP on MS Windows.
